Feng Shui is all about balancing and harmonizing your inner energy with nature and other elements surrounding you. House facing directions in feng shui means exactly what it sounds like.

These are feng shui principles and designs as per the directions that your house faces. You can easily determine your home’s facing direction by the Compass Direction of your front door (main entrance door).

Please note that these principles and designs may vary depending on the type of Bagua map you choose to use. It could be the traditional/classical feng shui Bagua or the western Bagua, also known as BTB Bagua.

Feng shui Directions

As per classical feng shui Bagua, there are 8 Directions that your house may face. Use the Bagua map (the energy map of feng shui) to find out more about the directions. Depending on the map, your house or office can face anywhere from North, northeast to South, Southwest. This 360 degrees’ polar circle is divided into 8 parts.

The directions of your house are strictly determined by the front door. In some instances, you may use the side doors and back doors more than the front door. However, your house’s Bagua map depends on the actual front door that your house or office is or was built with.

Note: There are instances where you may need to take multiple readings to determine the house directions.

House or Office Site

If you are just starting to build your home or office on a new site, the following fundamentals of feng shui should be kept in mind. We are not going to delve into the religious or superstitious anecdotes of the same. On the contrary, we will provide you the logicality of the principles.

Front and Back of the house

As per classical feng shui, the structure of your home or office should sit slightly low in the front and higher at the rear, thus creating a proper slope. This type of layout is useful for the water flow and installation of other utilities.

Spaces and layouts to avoid

It is best to avoid building your home or office structures on a cliff-side, at a river outlet, on a ridge, next to a bridge or intersection, and avoid sloping land behind it. If you look at all these fundamentals, you tend to gather all the reasoning behind them. Cliff sides are prone to avalanches, river outlets tend to flood, a slope behind the home or office can weaken your building’s structure, etc.

However, suppose you already own a property in these types of areas/layouts. In that case, it is best to reinforce them with the help of an experienced engineer and supplement additional feng shui cures to get rid of the negativity surrounding the house or office.

Feng Shui Auspicious House Direction

The most auspicious house direction as per classical feng shui is the south-facing. This, however, stands true for China since most warm winds blow from the southern directions. If you lay out the principles, in the same way, it is best to choose the direction that allows in more fresh and warm air with ample sunlight. This ensures more “Chi” absorption and a harmonious balance with the energy surrounding you and your dwellings.

Entrance from the side door instead of front

If you are buying a home or office that is already built, it is best to avoid the ones where the main door is located at the side of the structure. Select a house with a good view from the front door with a clear path to the road. The flow of ‘Qi’ should be unobstructed and aligned so that it enters your home without hindrance and interference.
